College of Chiropractic Intern’s Clinic Handbook

11.0 Intern Assessment

11.1 Midterm Meeting

Midway through the term, the intern and the faculty clinician are to meet and complete the Midterm Meeting form. To discuss progress made towards meeting the desired learning objectives and establishing goals for the remainder of the term. This is also an excellent opportunity to discuss how expectations for the experience have been met and how they may be adjusted for the balance of the term. The Midterm Meeting form is signed by the faculty clinician and intern, and returned to Clinical Education.

11.2 Assessment of Meta Competency Outcomes (AMCO)

At midterm and the end of the term, the faculty clinician will complete an “Assessment of Meta Competency Outcomes” (AMCO) evaluation in Examsoft. The faculty clinician will meet with the intern to review and discuss the intern’s observed strengths and weaknesses. Specific learning objectives for the coming term will be identified.

11.2.1 Referral to Clinical Education Remediation Panel (CERP)

Interns who are given a score of 1 by the faculty clinician on their AMCO will be referred to CERP. The Remediation Coordinator (RC) will gather and review all pertinent documentation, speak with the intern and their faculty clinician, and determine if the case should go to full committee. If so, the Panel will develop a Remediation Plan for the intern. Whenever possible, the intern will remain in their assigned clinic; however, if necessary, the intern will be transferred to another clinic site which will enhance their learning opportunity. A faculty clinician may fill out an AMCO on their intern at any point during an internship and contact the RC. An intern’s lack of cooperation or compliance with the plan laid out by the CERP could result in termination of the internship and a referral to the Academic Standards committee.

11.3 Clinical Intern Experience Evaluation (CIEE)

All interns are required to complete an evaluation of their clinic experience at the end of each term and experience.

11.4 Intern Self-Assessment of Meta Competency Outcomes (SAMCO)

All interns are required to complete a Self-Assessment of Meta Competency Outcomes (SAMCO) evaluation in Examsoft at the end of each trimester. This allows students and Clinical Education to monitor growth patterns and help students who feel deficient in any category.

11.5 Northwestern Integrated Clinical Exam (NICE)

11.5.1 NICE 2

Students took the NICE 2 during the fifth trimester.

11.5.2 NICE 3

Students take the NICE 3 during the eighth trimester. Students must complete the NICE 3 to begin a T10 Preceptorship.
