2019 Winter Trimester

MAND3313 MANDARIN FOR CHINESE MEDICINE 3

Mandarin for Chinese Medicine 3 is the third of a three-part Modern Standard Chinese (aka “Mandarin) series designed to serve the language needs of English-speaking Chinese medical students and to prepare these students for encounters with Chinese medical culture. It will focus on improving the students’ ability to read, write, pronounce and understand Chinese words written in pīnyīn script, simplified characters, or spoken in Modern Standard Chinese. This class is designed to be taken in tandem with the Chinese Medical Pathology and Materia Medica course sequences; it will focus on the names of Chinese herbs as well as the more difficult or easily confused technical terms in Chinese medicine. In addition, it will prepare students for the language difficulties they will encounter when writing their Chinese medicine capstone project. It will also continue with grammar and translation study.
