This course is a survey of the processes that an organism undergoes to grow and develop. The course will highlight the molecular mechanisms involved in development. A number of model systems for development, including examples of both invertebrate and vertebrate animals, will be presented. The relevance of developmental processes to human disease will be discussed. In addition, the link between development and evolutionary biology will be covered. The material presented in this course will aid students planning careers in health fields and enhance their ability to understand issues in biology.
