College of Chiropractic Intern’s Clinic Handbook 2021-2022

7.2.1 Clinical Rotations Policy

  1. Students are expected to schedule these rotations outside of clinic times and class times. If there is a conflict with regularly scheduled clinic hours, notify your primary clinic supervisor of the conflict, however, TAC is not needed if you fall below the minimum hours for the week. While a rotation may earn the intern enough clinic hours to meet the weekly minimum, the expectation is that students continue to observe their contracted clinic shifts and scheduled weekly hours.
  2. If students cannot fulfill the commitment to their scheduled rotation time, they must cancel at least 24 hours in advance. If the cancellation is less than 24 hours in advance, the student must notify both the clinic rotation site and Clinical Education (CE). The rotation must be rescheduled through CE.
  3. The intern will lose 1:1 TAC time (up to 3 hours) in the following situations:
    1. failure to attend a scheduled rotation,
    2. failure to notify both the site and CE of a cancellation, and
    3. failure to notify more than 24 hours in advance or 1 week ahead for Pillsbury House.

The intern will receive 1:1 TAC time (up to 3 hours) in the following situations:

    1. If CE fails to notify interns of a cancellation less than 24 hours in advance. 1 week ahead for Pillsbury House.
    2. If the student shows up, but the host site cancels or does not hold the rotation.
  4. If a student incurs a medical emergency that prevents him/her from attending a scheduled clinical rotation, the student must submit written documentation verifying the medical emergency to CE. Written documentation must be submitted within 3 business days of returning to school following the medical emergency. Submission of valid documentation will result in no loss of TAC; however, the appointment must still be rescheduled.
  5. If a student needs an accommodation for any of the clinical rotations, the request must be made and verified through Student Affairs and follow their established accommodation policies.
  6. Students at Northwestern’s Special Population clinics (Harbor Light Pillsbury House) may perform adjustments and can submit case management forms for credit during rotation shifts under the supervision and authorization of the faculty clinician. By acknowledging receipt of these policies in Moodle, you agree to abide by the definition of a valid adjustment and to follow the specific instructions and authorization of the faculty clinician during clinical encounters at these sites.
  7. Students who do not complete required rotations will receive an incomplete for Clinical Internship 3 or 4. See the University Student Handbook for information on resolving incompletes.
