Clinical Orientation and Attendance

Clinical Training Orientation

The professional designated as the Clinical Training Supervisor at the Clinical Training affiliate is responsible for orientating the student to the facility’s policies.  This orientation usually includes:

  • explanation of physical layout and tour of the facility
  • general rules and regulations
  • hours and days the student will be present
  • dress code
  • parking arrangements
  • telephone protocol
  • safety procedures
  • who will be available for questions
  • review of weekly internship record procedure

Typical Clinical Training Rotation Schedule

The Clinical Training rotation schedule will vary with each facility and student abilities.  The following is a suggested rotation:

      Weeks 1-2       Reception, business office, filing, administrative duties

      Weeks 3-5       Nursing, clinical duties

      Weeks 6-7       Lab and specialized departments

      Week 8            Rotate where needed

 

Attendance

Attendance records are kept during Clinical Training by the student, Clinical Training Supervisor, and Northwestern Health Sciences University.  Whenever the student must miss time during Clinical Training, the student will:

  • inform the Clinical Training Supervisor
  • inform the University Clinical Coordinator
  • make arrangements to make up the lost time
