SOC-1006 SEX AND GENDER

This course is designed to introduce students to the study of sex, sexuality, gender identity, and gender expression. Topics include: current conceptualizations and theories relating to sex and gender; cultural norms and social institutions that shape and reinforce ideas about sex, sexuality, gender identity, and gender expression; and the history of LGBTQ+ discrimination, including efforts to achieve equal rights. Students taking this course will also have opportunities to analyze current research on sexual and gender minority (SGM) health and healthcare. This course is considered a Social Sciences General Education course.
