Radiation Therapy Program Clinical Education Handbook

Conflict Resolution

Clinical Education Complaint Resolution:

Any student complaints regarding non-compliance of the clinical education site with The Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology (JRCERT) standards must be put in writing to program officials allowing the program the opportunity to address the concern. Program officials will immediately contact the clinical supervisor at the training site and determination will be made of the appropriateness of the complaint and resolution of the complaint. A written reply will be provided within 5 days of receiving the complaint.

JRCERT standards and policies may be located at www.jrcert.org

Clinical Education Problem Resolution:

  1. The institution is responsible for the resolution of student-related issues.
  2. Upon notification of a problem, either by the clinical supervisor or by the student, a program official will discuss the concerns with the clinical supervisor to determine if corrective actions are possible and/or necessary.
  3. Actions may include but are not limited to:
    1. No action
    2. Referral to the university Academic Standards Committee (ASC)
    3. Counseling
    4. Removal from the clinical site
    5. Probation
    6. Dismissal

Dismissal from a Clinical Site:

  1. In the event that the clinical site dismisses a student, the student will leave the site immediately and contact program officials.
  2. If a clinical site requests that program officials notify a student of dismissal, the program officials will notify the student as soon as possible. The student will be instructed to leave the clinical site and not to return to the clinical site or contact the clinical site without permission of program officials.
  3. Program officials will determine through interviews with the clinical site and the student the appropriate actions necessary which may include the actions listed above (#3).
  4. Dismissal from a clinical site will result with a referral to the university’s Academic Standards Committee and a failing grade for RTH2290 or RTH3291.
  5. Professional behavior and appearance are expectations of the program and if not satisfactory, this may result with a referral to the ASC and possible dismissal from the clinical site or the program.
  6. The RTH program has no obligation to obtain another clinical site for the student if dismissed from his/her/their current placement.
