Methods of Evaluation
Evaluation of performance during clinical education is critical to the students’ success.
Evaluations can be accomplished in a variety of ways:
- Monthly Clinical Performance Evaluations
- All Competency Forms
- “Comp on Demand” competency forms
- QA Presentation
- Case Study
- Attendance
- Monthly documents with Excel Spreadsheet update
- Entry Level Form
Copies of all evaluation forms can be found in this handbook. See “Forms” in the table of contents for specific location.
Monthly Documentation submitted via Dropbox
www.Dropbox.com
- Monthly Clinical Performance Evaluations
- Excel Spreadsheet updated each month
- Time Cards
- Competencies completed within that month
Schecule of DUE DATES follows:

Documentation:
Each student is required to upload all monthly documents (evaluations, excel spreadsheet competancy forms, etc) to the individual student Dropbox folder no later than the 1st of each month. The Excel spreadsheet is available in Dropbox to download for the students at the beginning of CE, and it must be kept up-to-date throughout the duration of clinical education. This spreadsheet must include updated timecard entries, monthly question responses and competency progress.
All competencies, assignments and paperwork MUST be submitted by the end of your 8th month.
Also, please contact the clinical coordinator immediately with any issues that need to be addressed, or questions that need to be answered.
Monthly Evaluations:
Each student is required to upload to Dropbox the previous month’s evaluation form(s) to the Clinical Coordinator no later than the 1st of each month. Every month, you must submit either a treatment or simulation evaluation form or both. If you spend equal time in either rotation during any month, where there is enough for someone to evaluate your progress in that rotation, you must submit both a treatment and simulation evaluation form. If you spend most of the month in only one of the above rotations, you can submit only one evaluation form.
It is ok to receive “N/A” on any component of the evaluation forms. It is up to the student to total the scores received on these evaluations before submitting them to the CC each month. Any evaluation form returned without a calculated score will be sent back to the student for completion.
Monthly evaluations are worth 276 points.
Competency Forms (Tx Mach/Simulation)
Each student is required to upload to Dropbox the current competency form(s) achieved during this time period (4 weeks) to the Clinical Coordinator no later than the 1st of each month. Every month, except for month one, you must submit either a treatment or simulation competency form(s) We suggest aiming for 5 or more each month to ensure the needed amount is met by the end of clinical education. (Please see the ARRT master list.)
Clinical Competencies:
- You must complete at least 5 competences each month of your clinical education starting in month 2. We do not expect you to complete competencies during your first month.
- Competences will carry over from month to month until all are completed. (i.e. if a student completes 10 competencies in one month, 5 could be credited to the next month)
- 5 or more comps completed = 100% of total monthly points possible
- 2 - 4 comps completed = 50% of total monthly points possible
- 0 – 1 comps completed = 0% of total monthly points possible
- Once all your competencies are completed, you will continue to earn 100% for each month following.
- It is to your advantage to complete as many competencies as you can each month early on so you are not struggling to get everything in at the end of your 1440 hours.
- A copy of any failed competencies must be sent to the Clinical Coordinator to place in your file.
You must complete ALL competencies before you can graduate.
Progress Evaluation
- Student performance evaluation is done during the site visit by the RTH Program Chair or Clinical Coordinator.
- Students will perform monthly emails or phone calls to the RTH Clinical Coordinator to inform her of clinical education experiences, ask questions, etc.
- The RTH Clinical Coordinator will contact the Clinical Supervisor to discuss the student progress and concerns if necessary.
- Competency completion according to schedule maintaining satisfactory progress
- Radiation Therapy Second Check “Comp on Demand” procedures are performed by the student satisfactorily.
- Satisfactory progress in and completion of the RTH Comprehensive Review course (RTH2280)
Final Evaluations:
- Exit Interview with CC
- Efolio Project
- Entry Level Clinical Education Evaluation
- Graduate Questionnaire
- Employer Questionnaire—what NWHSU sends to your employer after 6 months of working
- CE Completion Form—filled out by CC during exit interview
Second Check “Comp on Demand” Procedures:
Satisfactory performance of second check treatment procedures requested of the student by the clinical site supervisor and/or qualified therapist is a graduation requirement. At the beginning of your second semester of clinical education, you must post this form in the control room outside the linac so all therapists know which comps are fair game to comp on demand.
Site/Supervisor Evaluations:
- Students are required to fill out an evaluation on the site/supervisor twice during their clinical experience.
- These evaluations are due at the end of each trimester.
- Information from these evaluations will be tallied and given to the site during the yearly Clinical Supervisors meeting.
- The sites will NOT know which student the evaluation has come from, as feedback on all clinical education sites during that calendar year will be given to each site.
