Dress Code Policies

 

Lab Dress Code:

  • Neat, clean, and wrinkle-free scrub tops and bottoms.Tops may be solid color or patterned; pants are to be solid color, and appropriate undergarments must be worn.
  • Any good, sturdy nursing or athletic-type shoes are permitted
    • Sturdy, clean, leather or synthetic leather
    • Colors or patterns are acceptable in nursing shoes
    • Must have closed toe, complete back, non-skid, non-mesh
    • No boots, no open-back clogs, no sandals, no open-toed shoes are permitted. 
  • Shoes must be worn with socks above the ankles.
  • Wear student nametag /ID when in lab class and at Clinical Training.


    Hair:

    • Hair will be pulled back in lab sessions and at Clinical Training.
    • Beards and mustaches must be short and well-trimmed.
    • Hair color is limited to colors found in natural hair; no blue, pink, green, purple, etc.
    • Safety glasses must be worn during every laboratory session involving human fluids.
  •  

    Fingernails:

    • Fingernails must be clean and trimmed short enough to be flush with the tip of the finger pad when viewed from the palm side.
    • No artificial nails or tips; these breed bacteria.
    • No chipped or worn nail polish. No jewels or embellishments on nails.

     

    Jewelry:

    • Simple jewelry is allowed; rings are limited to one plain band, wristwatch, and/or small post earrings that do not extend beyond the earlobe.
    • Piercings are limited to 2 earrings per ear.No visible body piercing or tattooing is permitted. This includes nose, eyebrow, tongue, lip.

     

    Tattoos:

    • Tattoos are to be covered in lab class unless absolutely impractical.

     

    Personal Hygiene:

    • Exemplary body cleanliness is a necessity for all medical assistant students.This includes daily bathing, use of deodorant, regular hair shampooing, etc. Cigarette smoke odor is not tolerated.
    • Light or natural make-up is allowed; no extremes, glitter, excessive dark or bright colors.
    • The use of cologne/perfume is not allowed in in the classroom and not allowed in Clinical Training.This conforms to clinic and hospital policies.

Dress Code Violation(s):

  1. It is the duty of the faculty to call to the student’s attention violation(s) of the dress code and to assess proper reduction in grade for violations.
  2. Instructors or Clinical supervisor(s) may ask you to leave the site until violation is rectified (hygiene, cigarette/smoke odor, tattoos covered, piercing removed, uniformed pressed…)
  3. Notifications of violation(s) will be conducted in a polite, courteous, and professional manner.
