Grading

Grade Requirements

To pass program courses and maintain progress in the program, students must pass 100% of the psychomotor and affective competencies listed under MAERB Core Curriculum. Students are allowed three attempts to achieve a passing score. Competencies can be conducted in various formats: work product with or without rubric, role play with rubric, proficiency testing, etc.

Students must pass all lab proficiencies to pass any MA core lab class.

All Medical Assisting core courses which include labs, grades are assigned as follows: 
A          100-93 %
A-         92-90 %
B+        89-88 %
B          87-83 %
B-         82-80 %
C+        79-78 %
C          77-75 %
F          less than 75 %

For all Medical Assisting core courses without labs, grades are assigned as follows:
The grading scale is as follows:
A          100-93%
A-         92-90%
B+        89-88%
B          87-83%
B-         82-80%
C+        79-78%
C          77-73%
C-         72-70%
F          69-%

Repeating a course: A student is allowed to repeat the same Medical Assisting core course only once (total of two attempts).  If a core course is not successfully completed the second time, the program chair will schedule a meeting with the student. This may result in a referral to the Dean of the College of Health and Wellness with a recommendation for program dismissal.

Gen Ed Grades
: The Medical Assisting Program also requires a passing grade in all General Education courses. 

Blended
lecture and lab courses:  Lab and lecture grading components are combined into one course grade.

Grade Appeals: Students have the right to appeal decisions made by the Medical Assisting Program by following the appeals process (see University Catalog). Appeals should begin with the Program Director who can assist you with the process.
